Which of the two applies to me?<\/summary>\n<p class=\"ov-r\">They aren&#8217;t two names for the same thing: they are <strong>two different procedures<\/strong>, with different requirements, duration and advantages. A quick rule to place yourself: if you hold a <strong>university degree of at least 3 years<\/strong> (or 5 years of experience, or 3 if you work in tech) <strong>you can choose<\/strong>, and then the <strong>EU Blue Card<\/strong> is usually the better bet for the reason you&#8217;ll see in the next question. If your qualification is <strong>higher vocational training (FP Superior) or equivalent<\/strong>, or you can show <strong>3 years of experience<\/strong>, your door is the <strong>national<\/strong> route. The minimum salary is the same in both. With the <strong>national<\/strong> route, every new employer requires <strong>a brand-new authorisation from scratch<\/strong> \u2014the full procedure, all over again\u2014. With the <strong>EU Blue Card<\/strong>, if you have <strong>12 months of contributions<\/strong> with the first employer and the new post is still highly qualified, <strong>a simple notification is enough<\/strong>. The difference is in the exceptions: the <strong>national<\/strong> route has <strong>none<\/strong>; on the <strong>EU Blue Card<\/strong> the minimum drops to <strong>\u20ac33,085.09<\/strong> if your occupation is on the shortage list (groups 1 and 2 of the national classification of occupations) <strong>or<\/strong> if you obtained your qualification <strong>within the last 3 years<\/strong>. An important note: <strong>these figures changed on 28 June 2026<\/strong> and will change again on their own when the INE (national statistics institute) publishes the new average wage, usually each May.
